Going natural is definitely the latest fad in town and everyone seems to be catching this latest fever in the beauty industry. It is as if a veil has just been lifted off the beauty of the natural African hair. “It is a revolution, we have seen the light”.

Going natural is like one of the major decisions you may have taken, like changing your diet, losing weight etc. It takes dedication and commitment hence the need for the three most important questions in decision making. WHY, WHEN and HOW.

This question is too valid to be ignored. I have met clients who started and fell out by the way. Growing and maintaining your natural hair requires more commitment than products. Why are you transitioning? Are you transitioning because you think it will make your hair stronger and healthier? Is your natural hair journey inspired by your friends or perhaps your favorite celeb? There is no right or wrong reason to go natural; the most important thing is you are doing it.

After the big chop

Let me answer this for you, the answer is NOW! NOW IS THE TIME.

Now that you have made up your mind on transitioning, the question now is how? There are so many options for transitioning, THE BIG CHOP is one. By big chop, we mean cutting your hair to the barest minimum and growing your hair from the root. This is a bold step.

Another option is wearing extensions and weaves. This will allow your natural hair grow under, till it reaches a comfortable length. There are various transitioning styles that can also help you in the journey to a natural hair. E.g. Bantu knots, flexi rod sets, straw sets etc.

Now that you are sure you want to transition and you know how to, TAKE THE STEP NOW

Maintaining moisture is so important in your natural hair journey. Sometimes, finding what gives your hair optimum moisture can be so complicated, but the simplest and only true source of moisture is WATER. Yes! The cheap and cheerful aqua.  We often think moisture come from oil, oils are just sealants. Moisture comes from water. Drink a lot of water, and use water based products, always remember to seal your hair with heavy oils (black castor oil, Jojoba oil, coconut oil) after washing.

Going natural is a wonderful experience. It’s time to love this new found journey you are embarking on.
