How To Wash Your Makeup Brushes

By  |

Your makeup brushes will be full of your face’s natural oils, makeup, and bacteria after a few weeks of usage. You clean your makeup brushes regularly to get rid of the bacteria, and cleaning the brushes helps to prevent your makeup colors from getting mixed. It will also help soften the bristles.

This article will show you how to properly clean and dry your brushes.

HOW MANY TIMES

Ideally, your brushes should be washed once in a month. But, it is important to use wipes to clean them before and after use daily or once a week depending on how often you use them.

WHAT YOU NEED

  • Hegai & Esther Brush Conditioning Shampoo. I advise that you use as it is not harsh.
  • Lukewarm water. Never use hot water to wash your makeup brushes as it will damage them.
  • A cloth or a paper towel.

HOW TO WASH THE BRUSHES

  • Run your brush bristles under lukewarm water.

TIP: Make sure to keep the bristles pointing downwards, avoiding the area where the handle meets the head. If water gets in there, it can loosen the glue that holds the bristles together!

  • Dispense a few drops of baby shampoo on the palm of your hand
  • Swirl the bristles back and forth in the shampoo until it creates a lather
  • When you are sure it is clean enough, rinse the bristles again
  • Use your fingers to rid the bristles of the shampoo while it is rinsing. Continue this process until the water that runs out of the bristles is clear.
  • Take the brush out from under the water and gently fold a towel around the bristles.
  • Reshape the brushes as you dry them.
  • Dry them by laying them flat.
